The St. Lucie County Education Foundation is 20 years old
For 20 years the organization has awarded grants, recognized district employees, and provided scholarships. The organization has grown gradually, and now, at 20, it is ready to double the great works provided.
The St. Lucie County School Board and district staff participated in a festive kick-off at the May 11 school board meeting. Handing over $20 bills signified the commitment and support coming from the top to show that this is important for the entire school system.
20/20 works this way: with nearly 5,000 school district employees donating $1 per pay period, we can raise $100,000 more in 2010-2011 than ever before. Every penny is used for the school district family. The Education Foundation can double the number of grants for schools and classes and the number of student scholarships with this kind of internal support.
The community is encouraged to continue to contribute, as well. Foundation board members have 20/20 pins to hand over for your $20 donation, on the spot.

Night of the Stars
One of the most exciting events of the Foundation is the annual Night of the Stars Awards Ceremony: A Celebration of Excellence in Education. During the awards ceremony, Saturday, February 27th, the St. Lucie County Education Foundation and the St. Lucie County School Board recognized teachers and support staff who inspire, stimulate, and transform our children daily. Over 800 guests honored the 152 nominees for their dedication to excellence in education.
We would like to thank the category sponsors that helped make this event possible: Teacher of the Year: The Morganti Group, School-Related Employee of the Year: Tropicana, Distinguished Minority Educator of the Year: Keiser University and Outstanding First Year Teacher: AT&T.

Rock Around the Clock for Education
Joel Green and Lacy Ward, National Swing Dance performers and instructors had everyone rocking Saturday, March 13 at the St. Lucie County Education Foundation Second Annual Spring Event, “Rock Around the Clock for Education.”
Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies in Tradition was transformed into a Fifties Diner with black checked tablecloths, fuzzy dice, pompoms and 33 rpm records hanging from the ceiling. Guests dressed in poodle skirts, t-shirts, cuffed up jeans and leather jackets enjoyed a casual dinner of salads, hamburgers, hotdogs, root beer floats, milk shakes and banana splits as music from the fabulous fifties played in the background.
Everyone in attendance received a souvenir photo to take home with a backdrop of a fifties scene that was painted by students from Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts under the direction of Mr. Gerard Saltus.
All proceeds from this event will benefit education in St. Lucie County by providing grants to teachers and scholarships to St. Lucie county public high school students.
