Classroom Grants - Giving Teachers the Tools

Supporting teachers in the classroom is fundamental to the mission of the Foundation, and you can help!

Classroom Grants provide funds for teachers who have developed creative and innovative classroom projects that engage students in learning activities. Classroom grants may be awarded in two ways.

  • An educator submits a proposal to the classroom grant committee describing the project to be funded.
  • A contributor makes a donation earmarked for a specific project or classroom.
If you have a bright idea for the classroom, here is your chance to turn your ideas into reality! If you are a public school teacher (K-12) in St. Lucie County, you may apply for this grant. Grant money may be used for materials and/or equipment, but not for teacher or student stipends. The focus of your grant request must be for an innovative classroom project, not merely a request for supplies.  Check application for deadlines.

Working Together for Success

The purpose of the Working Together for Success grant program is to fund innovative school-wide projects designed to motivate low-performing students. Grant money is available for public schools in St. Lucie County and may be used for materials, incentives, and equipment but not for teacher or student stipends. Check application for deadlines.

Mrs. Basile was active in almost every organization in the county that served children's needs, and is credited with founding the Heart Gallery to increase Foster child adoption, the Lifelong Literacy Coalition, and Swim Collaborative.

The Foundation is proud to have established this grant in honor and in memory of Kathryn Basile.

Teacher of Excellence Utilizing Technology in the Classroom

laptops The St. Lucie County Education Foundation recognized three outstanding teachers utilizing technology in the classrooms at the May 11 school board meeting. Dawn Skoglund of St. Lucie West K-8, Fran Pitt of Fairlawn Elementary, and Natascha Hunsader of Weatherbee Elementary demonstrated their ability to integrate technology to support curriculum and engage all students. Each teacher received a trip to the Florida Education Technology Conference and a laptop computer and case. Dell Computers gave the computers for the fifth year. Presidio Networking Solutions, Inc. sponsored the conference for the first time this year.

Teresa Sullivan, the 2011 Teacher of the Year, also received a computer from Dell.

The Education Foundation appreciates the great work of these teachers and the partnerships with Dell and Presidio.

The spirit of giving is alive

On November 25, 2008 Foundation President, Elizabeth Heard Mallonee and Vice President, Pam Houghten awarded $2,345 in Citigroup Grants.

The Citigroup Team Mentor Grant is a classroom grant that pairs a beginning teacher (less than five years of teaching experience) with a veteran teacher (at least 5 years of teaching experience).

The two teachers work together to create a classroom grant project, benefiting both teachers and their classrooms.

Congratulations!
