"The goal of the Food Service Program is to provide the students of St. Lucie County with nutritious, high-quality food choices to enhance their ability to learn." Deborah R. Wuest
Director of Food and Nutrition Services
Child Nutrition Services serves around 11,000 breakfasts and 27,000 lunches every day across 42 school sites. During our previous school year more than 1,900,000 breakfasts were served and more than 4,700,000 lunches were served through our child nutrition meals program. We are strongly committed to providing healthy meals that students can enjoy and receive quality nutrients.
St. Lucie Public Schools Child Nutrition Services Meals are planned by a Child Nutrition Specialist and reviewed and approved by the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services for providing optimal levels of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Iron, Calcium and Calories. Students are required to take a fruit or vegetable as a part of their meal. At least half the grains offered will be whole grains and menu items are be updated to reduce sodium levels. A variety of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables will continued to be offered everyday along with legumes offered weekly. All ala carte items meet the gold level of healthy snack items being offered that are low in fat and sugar. Standards for our Ala Carte items for elementary and secondary schools are defined in our district’s Wellness Policy.
